It started with one coffee. And a brutally honest conversation.
Marc wasn’t looking for advice. He was just looking to get some air.

Two launches, a backlog of post-mortems, and an exec team that rewarded speed over strategy. Marc was on the path to burnout.

So when an old marketing colleague invited him for coffee in rainy Vancouver, Marc jumped at the chance.

Nothing fancy. Just banana bread, cappuccinos, and a simple question...
“No really, how’s it really going?”
What followed wasn’t small talk.
It was a 90-minute impromptu workshop about budget battles, data chaos, and the quiet pressure to act like you’ve got it all together.

Marc’s friend just nodded. “Man, I thought it was just me.”

They met again.
Then brought another marketing leader.
Monthly coffee meetings. No decks. No pitching. Just the promise to be honest and authentic.

And every time, they each left with a new insight, and the relief of not feeling so alone.

What originally was "just coffee" turned into problem solving sessions.
Over time, coffee chats became something more formalized. A mastermind (or what is also called a peer advisory group), a support system for people leading marketing teams in the real world.
Where it was okay to say, "I’m stuck. Has anyone else dealt with this?” and hear, “Here's what I tried that eventually worked.”
The group felt like a roundtable of experts all helping each other solve challenges.

The group swapped playbooks. Stress-tested ideas. Shared lessons and got even harder questions in return.
It was the kind of pushback Marc used to pay coaches for, except it came from real people with real-world experience, not theoretical frameworks.

More importantly, it reminded Marc that leadership isn’t about having all the answers.

It’s about asking better questions. Asking them out loud. In good company.
